This is a stainless steel bit designed especially for racing. This is a very strong bit and as such is usually only used on headstrong racehorses prone to hanging or lugging. The wire bar encircling the jaw is very effective against lugging. The bit allows the rider to exert more pressure on one side of the mouth or the other to keep the horse travelling more tractably.
